About Me

I am interested in working with individuals and couples across a

range of presenting concerns. I see my work with clients as a partnership. I accept my role to listen and validate, and to offer feedback that may help the individual/couple better recognize the patterns and experiences that are impeding growth and healing. I draw mainly from the diverse field of cognitive-behavioral modalities, as well as structural systems theory. Undergirding any approach I may employ is the essential quality of the therapist-client relationship.

I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, with degrees in psychology and counseling.  For over 27 years I have worked across several settings including Holly Hill Psychiatric Hospital, Wake County Mental Health, and in private practice over the past 15 years.  I've been active in the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of NC, including serving in 2008 as president.  I have facilitated numerous workshops locally and nationally, and have guest lectured at several area universities including UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State, St Augustine's, and Wake Technical Community College. I also have an interest in facilitating emotional well being through writing and music.  More of my work in this arena can be found at www.HughWillard.com and via my Facebook page: Willow Way Creations.
